New Years Day

So it’s here the infamous 2021, I fear not the saviour that everyone is relying on. But this month I face an Mri and Phone Consultation with my surgeon to discuss the state of the hip inside, and the timeframe of getting surgery done under these new restrictions.

I’m struggling with how externally rotated my hip is, it means the foot rotates and lies flat, and the knee is totally pointing outwards when I lie down.

For an Mri I need to be able to hold it upright for better imaging, for at least 45mins. So I’m attempting to strengthen the glute muscles to aid me.

I am so far off 45mins, I can just about get to 2 minutes before it’s shaking and painful beyond words. They will have to tie my feet together, I’m not strong enough.

My Review

Nestled in a tower of pillows like Princess and the Pea, snug with hot water bottles and blankets, I have my reading fort set, complete with Hot chocolate and marshmallows.

The blurb got me thinking, how would I react, how would family react, would it change me as a person? would family really see you as the same again?

Very different to my normal read, but I liked the deeper thoughts that went with this, weighing up guilt, greed, envy and fear. Losing friends, gaining different perspectives, it’s all in here, and your in for one hell of a ride.

What an read, thoroughly loved every page, and how it’s lingered on long after reading, money really can change the world, though not always for the best, are you prepared for that?

#Blogmas What A Year!!

As I reflect back on this year, and what a year it’s been. So upside down and turned around. Things happened that no one would have ever foresaw. But while I don’t need to blog the negatives as we all know them far too well. Instead I’m thinking of the positives.

So in January saw me trying out my 1yr old Hip Replacement, on walks further afield. Here is #ThorsCave

February I won an #ERWhittington painting, saw my 4 daughters, and attended a #SBS event.

March we headed to #Halsey concert, literally the weekend before lockdown!! And more walks, getting stronger I was, little did I know that would change dramatically. 3 week lockdown??? Collected Mini Moon so she wasn’t alone up at Uni.

April glorious weather we had, people trying to be as positive as possible, learning new skills. Seen as 3 weeks was an obvious lie, it’s continuing.

May was my Grandsons 4th birthday and I couldn’t see him, and for that I hate the world, for stealing my precious time with him. Longest 3 weeks ever.

June Grateful we have a garden and countryside so close to home to escape too, Lockdown is getting to most of us, and though we don’t eat out, or shop much. It’s missing family that hurts.

We managed a nice wedding anniversary in the chase, with lovely weather in June.

July Summer is here and country opening up a bit, and masks become mandatory. Hard when your exempt and people treat you like the plague. Our happy place is out in the forests and streams.

Also second Grandsons 1st birthday. Least we could see him then.

August I had a personal victory over steps, replaced hip getting better and better. Moved Mini Moon back to Uni. Hard to let go, when it still feels uncertain, some things are back better, but all the distancing and ban on seeing family feels vile.

September We are getting lots of walks in, they help clear the mind, free the soul and it makes the world feel normal.

Thoughts turning to October and we have a holiday booked, all while their are rumours of another full lockdown.

We made it on holiday, but we instantly went into a tier system, so it was a good job the cottage was self contained, as all pubs and restaurants shut again.

This is the month my opposite hip cracked and quite frankly hasn’t been the same since, so now I’m on a wait list to replace that.

November Still not allowed to see parents and my daughters which is tedious. Family is everything to me. While I can’t walk, I learnt a new craft of wreath making thanks to my eldest daughter.

December Was a case of can we or can we not? Mini Moon is allowed home, but can we see others, will it feel christmassy, It didn’t turn out as planned. But celebrated my Granddaughters 1st birthday.

Then my husband’s birthday and couldn’t see my third daughter for her birthday. But we did have a lovely tree, and Christmas was made the best it could possibly be

I feel we did the best we could around health issues, pain and obvious restrictions around the UK. Wasn’t how anyone planned, but I’ve made some amazing memories, seen some stunning views and had some personal victories.

What will 2021 hold?? well I hope a new hip for starters.

#Blogmas Snow Day

Wow it’s a Snow day!! It’s been at least three years since we had good snow, and I’m sure it was in March too!!

So as I have nowhere to go, I can appreciate how pretty it is for once. Usually I’m on a walking stick, or crutches and snow scares me.

I feel this calls for a day of movies, hot water bottles and snuggle blankets. Who am I kidding??That’s me everyday lol.

Lovely view in the garden. I know my joints won’t like the cold and damp, but I do love to see it.

#Blogmas Games Night

Do you still play board games at Christmas? We do as now it’s only 2 of us at home, you usually need at least 1 extra person to play a game, so when Mini Moon comes home, they soon get whipped out.

Game of life what a classic, We don’t have the newer version. So we still need a proper banker. Though we have tried the newer one, and that’s cool too.

My favourite game of all time, seen as I like crime so so much. Cluedo. You’d think I’d be good at it, but I was beat!! The Moons are too good at it.

#Blogmas The Big Tidy Up

Well that’s two full days we’ve had, of spectacular food, laughs and awesome gifts. Feeling very loved and full of love for the family.

This year it’s been hard to see most of the family, and that hurts immensely. And with no car too, has made it near impossible to get about and even drop gifts off.

However with gifts that weve given each other comes mess, wrapping paper bits, envelopes and tape stuck all around, and it’s time to find home for those precious items you’ve been given.

So music on, and I’m going to do my best in getting things in order, though I hope to avoid bending as best as I can, hip still being awful.

Hope you guys are still enjoying the season, as it’s still Christmas for me until New Year….

#Blogmas Christmas Eve

I confess I’ve not felt particularly festive persay, and everything I had looked forward too, like others have been dashed away.

But one film that will always cheer me up, is Santa Claus the Movie, the one with Dudley Moore in. I’m sure it’s one of my favourites as I clearly remember it from my childhood.

So come 11am I will be faithfully watching this, and relive my childhood for a few hours.

I love the story of how he became Santa, and the naughty elf Dudley Moore selling his magic.

But here are some other favourites I have from 2018 we loved this #ChristmasChronicle it was a fresh idea and approach to Santa, more relatable to children of today.

This year they followed up with #ChristmasChronicles2 and I honestly enjoyed it as much as the first, even though I knew it wasn’t a new formula this time.

I loved this, but my husband not so much it’s #JingleJangle a musical Christmas film, full of wonder and magic and love.

To end our day with #ArthurChristmas is a good day indeed, though I’ve seen many a time from 2011, it never fails to make me laugh. A real feel good movie, so grab your hot chocolate and marshmallows, stir in with a candy cane, and enjoy some festive films x

#Blogmas Winter Walks

It feels like forever since we went for a walk, it’s not. But the perception of it is.

Due to the car being off the road, we’ve had to shift our access to walks, and go from home. So it’s super gentle and even paths, just muddy as it’s extremely popular with dog walkers.

But hey we have glorious blue skies, and just a slight nip in the air, perfect.

Watching the sun go down always lifts the soul.

Drinking in the views, we are exceptionally lucky to live a few steps away from all of this.

Pay some respects for an ex neighbours plaque, gone far too soon. He would always take the dog down here, so it’s a perfect spot.

Muddy and murky walking back up, hip did not hold out well, and old piriformis flared up too.

Mustn’t grumble though, least we got some fresh air and got away in our minds for a short time.

Now it’s time to kick off shoes and catch up with #WorldsStrongestMan as that’s my personal Christmas tradition.

#Blogmas Witch/Yule Balls

Gathering bits together, and following my enjoyment of making our Christmas/Yule wreath, we decided to create our own Witch Balls.

Witch Balls have been popular from as early as the 18th century, in England around coastal villages, But it is thought that their actual origin is considered to be much older. For well over 3 centuries hollow glass blue or green spheres have been hung in windows to ward off witch’s spells, evil spirits and ill fortune. Now they are often filled with trinkets that are irresistible to the naughty sprites.

By hanging these dazzling glass balls in the window or on the Christmas/Yule tree is thought to tantalize mischievous spirits which may be threatening a home’s tranquillity, or messing with your health and spirit.

These mischievous spirits get mesmerized by the ball’s reflective beauty, or mysterious bounty inside. So when the spirit touches the ball it is absorbed and gets totally trapped or tangled up in the moss, feather, or ribbons inside, like a spiritual booby trap!

A witch balls were also a device used for scrying or divining things. Sometimes the ball was a like a magic mirror, a polished stone, or a crystal ball, in which they would divine futures to come.

In Coastal villages, witches would send out the glass globes for the fishermen to use to hold their nets afloat.

Witch Balls could measure up to 10 inches in diameter but now come a lot smaller for windows and trees. And no longer are they just glass, they now can be plastic which is clear, and ready to be filled.

And that’s exactly what we did this year, ready for Yule. We added moss, toadstools, hedgehogs, crystals that are personal to use, feathers, charms and pinecones.

We even had Hot dogs, Gluhwein with Christmas movies on, to recreate Christmas market festivities to get us more jolly. Safe to say I loved the night, and it certainly picked up our mood.
