THE DETECTIVES

Detective Superintendent Ray Paterson
is a young and (thanks to family money) wealthy womaniser, separated from his model wife and tipped to be the youngest ever commissioner of police. He knows
he’s weak when it comes to practical policing and struggles to find a place among his peers, desperate to be a good policeman and not just a ‘climber’.

Detective Inspector Johnny Clocks is a foul-mouthed, working-class officer. He
grew up surrounded by rogues and villains to become a first-class thief taker with the Met police. However, his childish attitude has short-circuited his career and he spends his days antagonising as many people as he can.

THE AUTHOR
Steve Parker is a retired police officer who served for 20 years in numerous high-profile squads.

My Review

I love it when the authors are ex police so you feel they are writing from truth, the grit and darkness are realistic as well as procedures noted.

I always feel the characters are born from pieces of real people snitched together to create, when they are from this profession. So when they write these books you instantly identify and relate to them.

It was a whole cliff hanger, page after page kept me coming back for more, I felt like I was in a whirlwind of action. Some books have a slower pace but this was go go go from the start.

2 weeks countdown to surgery!!

Archive, Arthritis, Covid -19 ~Week Seventy, Covid-19 Lockdown, Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, Health, Hips, Hypermobility, Hip replacement, SURGERY

Oh hell it’s starting to feel so real now, So its time to get things together for recovery as well as the surgery itself.

Hospital has rung for all the measurements, so sofa needs added cushion which is easy enough. The bed passes the measurements too.

All things need to be 2 inches over my knee to floor measurement which is 17inches. So looking for things over 19inches to be safe.

But my loo is too small, so they’ve ordered a toilet raiser for me.

So frame ordered and should be here before I come home from the hospital.

I have a bath board similar to this, so I can use this happily to have a shower over the bath.

For the first few weeks though I use a perch like this, to wash safely out of the sink. Not glamourous, but needs must. It’s also handy to put into kitchens as well, so you can prepare food if necessary.

Here is a handy list I found to get my head and home ready for surgery.

Last Welsh stop, Celtic Camping

Archive, Arthritis, Covid -19 ~Week Seventy, Covid-19 Lockdown, Family Adventures, Health, Hips, Hypermobility, Hip replacement, Travel

After all the peace and quiet of the last two sites, we are ending on a packed festival type site. Meeting our friends for a birthday celebration for them.

We manage to get a spot right next to them, Billy bonus!!

We have a glorious sea view too.

Gentle walk around the coast on the first night, I had no idea South Wales was this beautiful.

Bit too hard for me to get in, but Mr Moon leaps in.

Sunset is beautiful, and tomorrow we are attempting to find blue lagoon and beach I think. For now it’s birthday drinks, and a whole lot of giggling. I needed that.

We tried to drive it, but had to abort, drive back to site and walk to the beach, along the coastal path. Hard work but worth it.

We stop for a few mins and collect ourselves to walk to the blue lagoon.

It’s stunning, but my god it’s busy!! you can watch them all plunge in from such dizzing heights.

For us it’s a walk back to the beach and have a swim, the temperatures are scorching.

Sadly it’s a long slog walk back to the site, but oh well it was so worth it.

Burnt to a crisp, shattered and can’t barely move now, it’s an easy civilised tea and evening, watching the last sunset, as we go home tomorrow.

Adventure Continues, Wild Camping

Archive, Arthritis, Covid -19 ~Week Seventy, Covid-19 Lockdown, Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, Family Adventures, Health, Hips, Hypermobility, Travel

Following on from Gellie, it’s time for a crazy 2 night stay wild camping, where we have a compost loo and field to ourselves.

Technically we should of put our stuff in the back of his quad bike and walked down, but we couldn’t leave our car, thankfully it was dry so we could drive down. We followed the farmer through 3 closed gates and many many fields.

Set up slightly on a slope, but only sheep for neighbours apparently. So quiet and relaxing.

That is the compost loo.

We settle down and have a very peaceful evening, planning our next day to be a full beachy day.

Aberporth beach was HEAVEN, easy enough for me to get too, and even get in too swim as well.

Mr Moon took his board out, the sea was very calm and inviting.

Out where all the paddleboarders are still in the distant, it’s because dolphins are swimming so close to them. How beautiful.

Driving back to our field home for our last night already, at 7pm. We hope to catch some sunset and unwind after a long day at the beach.

Climbed to the highest point to grab the views and sunset. Perfect end to a perfect day. Tomorrow it’s pack up and travel to our friends site for 2 nights!!

Adventures in Wales, Gellie Camping

It’s July and my birthday month, and fast coming up to surgery date, so we’ve packed our rucksacks and tent, and we are off to have some adventures in Wales. First time this year being in Wales as lockdown had prevented it.For a complete wild adventure, we have 3 different sites and locations to camp at.

First up is Gellie Camping, and what a delight it is. We are both feeling wishful that it was for more than 1 night here, oh well means we have to come back asap for longer.Nice shower blocks and toilets, and sheltered washing up area.We get to choose which field to pitch on, it’s all very relaxed here, perfect after a long drive. We choose a rather empty field but it has views as higher up.Once set up we dash to New Quay to eat fish and chips and paddle in the sea.Absolutely stunning here!!We soon head back and settle down for the colours of the sunset.Sunset was glorious as you can imagine, listening to owls hooting, it doesn’t get better than this does it??

This must be visited again!!

My Review

Never before has a book stirred such emotive responses in me, it was dark and upsetting in places, description made you feel the true emotions of the characters, rather than merely read them.

Cleverly crafted plot, each page and chapter a surprise, such twists and turns, I nearly got whiplash.

I think I’m gonna be Biba fan for life, the style of writing deeply touched my soul.

3 week countdown, Pre Op Exercises

Archive, Arthritis, Covid-19 Lockdown, Covid-19 ~ Week Sixty Nine, Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, Health, Hips, Hypermobility, Hip replacement, SURGERY

I was following the first set faithfully, but I noticed a twinge and activation of nerve pain L1 L2 Psoas when I did Leg Raises and Heel Slides, so I’ve had to adapt and take them out.

So instead of not doing exercises, I’ve swapped them for

Hip Flexion x 10reps

Hip Extension x 10reps

Hip Abduction x 10reps

If these too cause the same nerve pain, then I will readjust things more, at least I can be flexible and change the reps, or exercise entirely.

CMC pains back

Archive, Arthritis, Covid-19 Lockdown, Covid-19 ~ Week Sixty Nine, Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, Health, Hips, Hypermobility

Sadly the old cmc joint pains are back, the injections this time have lasted around 3months, so it’s getting shorter and shorter in time.

As I’m close to Hip surgery (4 weeks) I can’t have the steroid injections beforehand, so I contacted Micats and I have to wait a good 2 months after the surgery too.

Bit sad I have to wait, but I understand as I believe it can hinder bone healing, so it’s not a good idea to have so close to surgery.

Hoping my cannula won’t be hooked up near such an inflamed joint, something I will have to ask them.

So its gloves and splints, and hoping I don’t get that awful painful rash again, that I get when the splints get sweaty in this weather.

Been loving this balm though from Natura Emporium on etsy, from France but arrived so fast!! Lovely to rub in and skin doesn’t dry out using it either.

Pre Op Time

Archive, Arthritis, Covid- 19~ Week Sixty Eight, Covid-19 Lockdown, Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, Health, Hips, Hypermobility, Hip replacement, SURGERY

Saw the dentist about the broken tooth, nothing can be done, except hospital to remove it in 12-18mths time. But at least it confirmed there’s no infection, and surgery can go ahead.

So Pre Op time, its usually it’s a time to discuss medication you are already on, fears and hopes about the surgery and recovery plan.

Weight and Height are measured, and usually bloods, Blood pressure, maybe a Urine sample and Mrsa swabs too.

I take my prescription in, so they can see what I usually take daily.

I have to stop Etoricoxib a day before my surgery. This time they checked elbows and back, and feet for skin quality.

I’m allowed to take my Vit D and Magnesium as usual though. Glad I asked.

We discussed the fragile teeth and how to tie the tube to save my front teeth from breaking again. Felt more confident once that was discussed.

We discussed the furniture requirements possibly needed, as sofa and bed need to be a particular height.

Happy to be given the full mot and all clear to go ahead, as long as my test comes back negative, mine will be a postal one as I live further from the hospital.

Now it feels real, and of course I got the beautiful shower, hair wash I need to use.

First Wild Camp

Archive, Arthritis, Challenges, Randoms, Miscellaneous, Covid -19 ~ Week Sixty Seven, Covid-19 Lockdown, Family Adventures, Health, Hips, Hypermobility, Hip replacement

I’ve done a lot of exciting things, but I’ve never wild camped, I’ve loved basic campsites, but this is extra special, as you are alone.

So for an amazing adventure, nestled between the euros as you cant miss that! we did a hike and camp. And it was epic!! We went from the 1st – 2nd of July. A perfect way to see in my birthday month.

We were spoilt with views pretty much straight away, and though we set off at 4pm it was boiling hot. So I huffed and puffed my way through.

First time carrying a bigger rucksack and I will say the hips hated it at first, but I got used to it. Lots of ibuprofen gel helped too.

Met a friend, the most inquisitive sheep ever. Really I think she wanted our food. Even allowed her baby to get close too.

We saw fellow wild campers along the way, hoping as they were faster that we would still have a spot.

We got a lovely spot, granted it wasn’t near the plunge pool but neither of us had swimming gear.

The view we had was spectacular, and I know most wild camp up the top, but that won’t ever be me. It’s too difficult to walk that.

Before bed I managed to fall over the guyline, and break a tooth, as well as a swollen knee. Let’s hope it’s not too bad in the morning???

Midgies loved us all night, which made sitting out a challenge. Sadly our bug off was not enough for these hungry monsters. So to the tent for bed at midnight. I loved listening to the river all night, and the birds to wake us up. I was thrilled to hear owls.

We set off at a reasonable time in the morning, hoping to beat the heat. Off to visit the mermaid pool for breakfast with a view.

Mr Moon mapping out our way to the pool, I was grateful we hadn’t done this walk yesterday, as I wouldn’t of be able too.

Knee a lot better than I thought, though it aches and is tender to the touch.

Had our breakfast here, and what a glorious view. Porridge oats just add water, they were a taste sensation.

Next we were meant to carry on upwards and after trying, I really did try. I had to admit it was beyond my capabilities and we had to go back the way we came. Traditionally we do loops, but this was too difficult so we took the easy option to backtrack.

I’m so glad we did, it felt a lot easier this way and it was a weight lifted off my shoulders, knowing I’d done that trail before therefore knew I was capable of it.

Once back down to where we camped, we stopped for a coffee and foot dip in the plunge pool, that was heavenly on hot tired feet.

We saw lizards, a toad and a super green caterpillar. We waited for the caterpillar to get to safe ground so he wouldn’t be trodden on, it attracted a fellow walker to come and look, he said thanks for showing him. I would love that, we always go super slow and from this we see so much more wildlife that many dont see. That and I look at the floor when I walk, to keep my feet steady.

Back at the reservoir, and what a view. It was honestly hard to leave, even though my joints were crying out for home.

Now home to unpack both physically and mentally, and god I best seek the dentist again about this tooth!!
