#AD GIFTED as always this book was gifted for a review, but all opinions are my own.

Totally new author for me, I confess I’d not heard of her before either, so fresh eyes, fresh characters to learn and either warm too, or hate with a passion. It’s exciting either way.

My Review

As the title suggests it’s a revenge story arc, it’s a classic bullied person seeks to get revenge. And although it sounds predictable as revenge stories are, it has a good narrative from the murderer themselves, explaining and detailing their crimes.

It’s full of suspense and I was full of wanting to save the person, but then thinking they kind of deserved it too. I switched from wanting them caught to wanting them to get away, so many times. My head was playing an internal tennis match.

I wasnt sure of the main character at first DCI Kirsty, but I gently warmed to her, and she has a keen eye and trusty gut instinct that you want all law enforcement to have. I love the sound of Benny, he conjures up quite a character in my mind’s eye. He is definitely my favourite one.

I’m interested to see if this becomes a full series, will DCI Kirsty feature in more books, as I’m sure to read them. I’m keen to see how they all develop over time and with more cases under their belts.

#AD Affiliate

This month I’ve been incredibly fortunate to be able to try out some incredible products. I am on their PR list and I do have an affiliate code.

However I’m under no obligation to post and share my love for them. I choose to do this on my own, as they are incredible products and very affordable too.

Yes I have an affiliate code, (SIRENMOONBEE) Which ive yiu 30% sitewide, however if you are in the UK like me, I suggest to you via BeautyBay my code only works on the official Gerard Cosmetics but I understand my UK readers will find it cheaper and easier to order inside the UK.

As you can see I’m getting a fairly large and well used items. Some are new to try out, such as the highlighter which I know already I’m definitely buying again and again!! I got Grace star powder available here a beautiful golden glow, subtle but there, my new found LOVE.

I also made sure I tried the much raved about lip pencils. And I’m so glad I did. I chose #Cher #SugarAndSpice #Ecstasy #MelrosePlace all various pinky nudes and perfectly me, no matter the occasion. I do prefer subtle make up, muted even as mostly it’s day wear. Buy them here Cher is here

Ecstasy is here

Melrose Place is here

Sugar And Spice is here

For lipsticks I decided against another Hydra Matte as I know I love them, and will return to them once mine are all gone, instead I bought a #LyricaCollab James Gloss which is deliciously dark and seductive. You can buy here

I love the light and mirror that comes with these glosses, so I had to get another gloss but in pink, to occasionally brush over the lip pencil colours. I got #PinkFrosting you can buy Here

And because I LOVE liquid lipsticks I had to try the #RoseGold Metallic liquid lipstick, and it’s even better than I imagined. Buy it Here

To finish off I bought the Stastruck Palette, I believe it’s for highlighting, but I’m going to use mine as eyeshadow, as they shimmer and shine so beautiful. When used wet with Mac primer the copper shade is breathtakingly beautiful. You can can one Here

My Review

As I said above I adore this series, it’s just light hearted enough to be enjoyed thoroughly on holiday, while not been too graphic and gruesome, although the mysteries keep you well entertained.

Jenny’s reluctantly to divert her focus off catering to solve murders always makes me giggle, as she’s so good at it. She is a book version of Murder she wrote, trouble always seems to follow her.

Always entertaining and I love the characters, they are so English to me. Another one loved wholeheartedly x

The Executioner By Heather Opperman #BlogBookTour

It’s that time again, where I get to dive into the murky depths of crime, murder and mystery, the criminal underworld always draws in me. I love the puzzle of solving the cases, the twists and turns, and how the authors mind works.

So as usual it’s an #AD GIFTED book in return for a review, but all opinions are my own.

So what do we have this time, the Title itself draws me in, I’m in for a treat. Unusually for me it’s set in a place I have no real life knowledge of, so I’m using all my imagination and authors description to try and visually see the places described. Nor have I heard or read anything about this author before, so it’s a new experience for me all round.

My Review

I’ve never heard of the author Heather Opperman, so I had no bias or opinions on the writing style or story telling abilities. Which was a nice adventure really discover new and exciting authors.

There is a male Detective Alex Reid who’s the main character, but I loved the sidekick Fadi way more, his personality tickled me,and the sassy medical examiner Kate!!

It’s starts from the killers point of view which pipped my interest immediately. Their thoughts and emotions were well described.

Hideous murders, but thankfully not too graphically described or gratuitous. But carefully done so you know what’s happened without flooding your mind with visual images.

I love the characters and how they interact with each other, the niggles and ones that gel well, it makes it feel more realistic, especially with clashes of personalities, as real life is like that.

With the setting being South Africa, which I sadly have no knowledge of, I relied on the author to describe the locations, which I found she did well, and it made me more attentive to the details.

This books starts at a speedy rate straight away, which I personally love. No long chapters bedding in the characters with long waits for anything exciting to happen. This was boom action packed immediately. A truly awesome book, that I highly recommend.

#AD gifted book.

My Review

This is a page turning read with many twists and loops, and so many What? moments? There are just as many dead ends to try and catch them out too. But even dead ends can reveal clues and leads to be useful. Will these leads hark back to Matt’s Past? Will it come back to haunt him and threaten everyone he cares about.

The characters are eye opening with realistic flaws and personalities. I felt no only did I learn some medical facts on complex mental health issues, but also learning about different cultures, and they’re struggles through this life.

#Blogmas 2018 The Winter Mystery by Faith Martin #BlogBookTour

Here I am back on it again with another terrific murder mystery book. Earlier this month I’d done The Birthday Mystery. Now there’s another one to enjoy.

So kick off your shoes and let’s begin.

FAITH MARTIN

Faith Martin was born in Oxford, and has spent all her life within twenty miles of the university city, even working at Somerville College for five years before turning to writing full-time. The author of the popular DI Hillary Greene novels, she also writes more classic-style ‘whodunits’ under the pen name Joyce Cato, but began her writing career as Maxine Barry, winning an award for penning romance novels! A popular writer for over 25 years, she has had nearly 50 novels published so far. Her hobbies include walking her now ageing dog, wildlife-watching, reading and (reluctantly) gardening

My Review

Oh dear Jenny has got herself in a pickle at first. So much to do and all the while not treading on the nieces toes. And it’s Christmas as well. I felt for her in the snow, I could recall the snow drifts we had in March this year, ridiculous heights it got too.

She is such a warm character, and I think she would be a hoot to know in real life too. And the scents I could smell off the pages describing the food, I was in heaven!!

Picturesque village life, busy bodies and murder, what more could I ask for? A full cast of characters with wit, and intelligence to boot, it’s a good read. I was kept guessing right until the end, which thrilled me no end. I love it when I don’t know how it’s going to end.

So it’s me again, with a Blog book tour. I had officially stopped due to the surgery date being originally 29th November. But as it was cancelled I re instated myself, to occupy my time.

This time I’m trying a new author, and this title drew me in, December sees me celebrating my husband’s birthday on the 9th, my daughter’s is on the 19th December, so this fitted in with my life perfectly.

Who doesn’t like murder mysteries and birthdays too ??

Jenny Starling is catering the twenty-first birthday party of a pair of posh twins, Alicia and Justin.
But when she arrives at their parent’s country house, she is immediately met by the police. A young man has drowned in the pond. Was it an accident or murder?
Then just after midnight everyone gathers for a champagne toast. But one of the guests falls down dead.
The police are baffled and there is a whole party full of suspects. But when it comes to someone adding the extra ingredient of poison to her own precious recipes, Jenny isn’t going to take it lying down. She has a reputation to protect.
Jenny Starling won’t stop until the murderer is found.

About the Author

Faith Martin has been writing for over 25 years and has had nearly 50 novels published. Born in Oxford, she has set most of her crime novels within sight of the ‘dreaming spires’. And right now, Joffe Books are re-issuing all 17 of her DI Hillary Greene series in new updated editions!
As Joyce Cato, she writes more classically-inspired ‘cosy’ murder mysteries, so if you’re a fan of red-herrings, amateur sleuths, and baffling murders to solve, these are the novels for you. And Joffe Books will also be bringing out this series as ebooks throughout 2018-19.
As Maxine Barry, her latest romance novels are now available from Corazon Books, with Imposters in Paradise, Heart of Fire (set in fabulous Hawaii) and The Lying Game now out.
As Jessie Daniels, her ‘spooky’ crime novel, The Lavender Lady Casefile came out in November 2017, published by Robert Hale, an imprint of Crowood Press

My Review

December is a hectic month, way more than we’d had planned initially. It’s come with interviews and presentation preparations and stresses, so this book has been the perfect antidote to all of this.

A bit of quiet time, alone with my thoughts and an opportunity to step away from stress, was the perfect escapism.

I’m a huge miss Marple fan, and I felt like the character Jenny was like her but young. Observant and spotting the smallest of details, connecting the clues.

So easy to read and it’s my first by Faith Martin, it sure won’t be my last. Afternoon murder films are my guilty pleasure for sure, and I could totally see this adapted for TV.

Wonderful way to spend a few hours to yourself, happy reading

The Enigma by Stewart Giles #blogbooktour

Here we are once again, but with a twist, this time instead of just being a DS Jason Smith, or DC Harriet Taylor series. These two powerhouses are combined. What a collab. I was soon eager to get stuck into this. So not only do we have the rugged Whitby coast, we dive into the rural beauty of Cornwall as well. Heavenly!!

The Enigma (DS Jason Smith & DC Harriet Taylor #1)

Available from UK £0.99 US $1.27 AU $1.78 CA $1.70

From #1 best-selling author: Stewart Giles comes a new detective series featuring the detectives from both the series’ we know and love.

In Trotterdown, Cornwall a boat, The Enigma washes in to the harbour. The skipper is dead, and Harriet Taylor is brought in to investigate. But 1 dead body is not the only crime the team have to deal with.

Meanwhile, further up the coast in Whitby a boat washes up on the rocks just outside the harbour. Everyone on board is dead. Whitby Police are out of their depth, so DS Jason Smith is called in to help.

It soon becomes clear the cases are connected and the teams from York and Trotterdown settle down to work with each other.

This is a unique story with twist, turns and shocks all the way through making it an adrenaline pumping read you will not be able to put down.

Stewart Giles – Author Bio

After reading English at 3 Universities and graduating from none of them, I set off travelling around the world with my wife, Ann, finally settling in South Africa, where we still live. After Ann dropped a rather large speaker on my head I came up with the idea for a detective series. DS Jason Smith was born. Smith, the first in the series was finished a few months later. 3 years and 8 DS Smith books later, Joffe Books wondered if I would be interested in working with them. As a self-published author, I agreed. However, we decided on a new series – the DC Harriet Taylor Cornwall series. The Beekeeper hit the shelves and hit the number one spot in Australia. The second in the series, The Perfect Murder did just as well. The third in the series, The Backpacker I have self-published and is now available.

My Review

I knew I was in for a treat when I heard the DC Harriet Taylor series and DS Jason Smith series were combining.

What could get better than these two excellent character meeting, cracking impossible clues to find a psychopathic murderer.

If they can learn to trust each other and not be so alpha, and become the best crime fighting duo the country has seen.

Chemistry is a must, to pull these into a cat and mouse chase to find a killer that travels the UK, leaving bodies in his wake.

What a read, a thrilling wild ride!!

Horsemen by Stewart Giles #blogbooktour

Archive, blog book tour, Blogger Reviews, Events

Galloping through the series, I’m diving into Horsemen face first, with my feet barely touching the ground. The action is coming thick and fast with no let up!!

Horsemen (DS Jason Smith #7) by Stewart Giles

Available from AMAZON

From #1 best-selling author: Stewart Giles comes a new addition to the popular Detective Jason Smith series.

One draining murder investigation after another has left DS Jason on the brink of losing his sanity and he needs a break.

Smith sets off for the peaceful Yorkshire village of Scarpdale for two weeks of country air, slow walks by the lakes and no mobile phone reception. He wakes up on his first morning to find three policemen outside his room. A young woman has been found dead next to one of the lakes. Smith was seen talking to the woman the night before.

Smith is begged by Jimmy Phoenix to find out what happened to his daughter. Against his better judgment, Smith agrees and starts to ask questions, but the locals are not giving anything away. When Sophie’s boyfriend, Lewis Van Camp is found dead an hour before her funeral, Smith is baffled. Lewis was his odds on favourite for Sophie’s murder.

Smith quickly realizes that rival horse breeders, the Van Camps and the Phoenix’s are involved somehow. Everybody he speaks to talks of something that happened in New York the previous summer; something sinister involving these horsemen but nobody seems to know exactly what went on.

I loved this being set in the horse industry and big money makers as they’ve always fascinated me. The dark murky waters of self made men and crimes weave a web of lies, thrills and spills.

Seeing the DC smith get together with his partner more is nice, though I often wonder why there’s always a romance with main characters, there is never a series of TV or book that keeps zero romantic involvement. But that’s just me. I could live without a romantic element, whereas others relish it.

The mystery of the millionaires daughter is a page turner, just what has happened? And will Smith solve it in time to truly have a break away from it all?
