#AD GIFTED
So it’s another Book Blog Tour, I’m loving these if I’m honest, they break up my recovery/physio periods and remind me to take time away from computers and social media. All opinions are my own, I am given the book to review.

Looking for a brilliant best-selling crime mystery with great detectives?

Detective Calladine and Bayliss hunt for a missing child in a mystery with a shocking ending.

Sophie Alder is the three-year-old daughter of local factory owner, Richard Alder. Richard and his wife Annie are locals from the rough housing estate who’ve made it big.

Plus, there’s a crime wave in Leesworth and the police can’t cope. One thief even dares to break into Calladine’s house.

A number of local men have formed a vigilante group. On one of their patrols they catch the burglar and he ends up dead.

The investigation is complicated and the detectives keep hearing about a shadowy figure called “Street,” the mastermind behind the increase in drugs and theft.

With two more murders and Calladine’s personal life in turmoil, the detectives face against time to find “Street” and the missing child.

In an ending with a huge twist, the detectives find everything they believed is turned upside down.

If you like Angela Marsons, Rachel Abbott, Mel Sherratt, Ruth Rendell, or Mark Billingham you will enjoy this exciting new crime fiction writer.
DEAD GUILTY is book nine of a new series of detective thrillers featuring D.S. Ruth Bayliss and D.I. Tom Calladine.

THE DETECTIVES
Tom Calladine is a detective inspector who is devoted to his job. His personal life, however, is not so successful. Having been married and divorced before the age of twenty-one has set a pattern that he finds difficult to escape.

Ruth Bayliss is in her mid-thirties, plain-speaking but loyal. She is balancing her professional life with looking after a small child.

THE SETTING
The fictional village of Leesdon on the outskirts of an industrial northern English city. There is little work and a lot of crime. The bane of Calladine’s life is the Hobfield housing estate, breeding ground to all that is wrong with the area that he calls home.

The Author
Helen sets her books in the area she has lived in for many years. The towns and villages that sit in the shelter of the Pennine hills. This is an area between two counties, Lancashire and Yorkshire, and between the city and the hills. It offers a rich mix of the industrial and the countryside and all the character therein.
Helen always planned to write crime novels. But until she retired from full-time work in a local further education college, it had to go on the back burner. Once she did retire – there was no excuse. She now writes full-time. Retirement proper will have to wait!
Currently there are nine books in the ‘Calladine & Bayliss’ series available – Dead Wrong, Dead Silent, Dead List, Dead Lost, Dead & Buried, Dead Nasty, Dead Jealous, Dead Bad, and the latest – Dead Guilty. There is also a box set of the first three books.
Also available are four books in the ‘DI Greco’ series – Dark Murder, Dark Houses, Dark Trade, and the latest – Dark Angel.
There are two books in the DI Matt Brindle series – His Third Victim and The Other Victim.

My Review

I’ll be honest the book cover stating a huge plot twist is what drew me in firstly. I love a good twist. I hate knowing what’s going to happen way too early on in the book. As then I’m going through the motions and not really left gripping the seat, dying to know what does happen next!!

I have no prior knowledge of this author or their writing style, but what I’ve read makes me want to start from book 1, as this is book 9.

Although it’s already well established with characters well explained and explored by book 9, I felt it was easy to picture the characters and their essence in this stand alone book.

The plot soon pulled me in, and got it’s hooks into pretty quickly, what a page turner! I genuinely had a few Omg moments where I frantically went back on myself to see with hindsight, the clues.

I felt the book was well executed, with the right amount of development, and story unfold in such an exciting way. I never saw the ending, and I’m thrilled at that.

As my first foray into DI Calladine I did enjoy his character, and his work team, even his neighbours too. Brilliant characters to read about.

I highly enjoyed this writing style, the way the characters come to life, and the way things are described really held my imagination.

Now to find the other books….

#AD gifted book.

After a time away to have hip surgery and recovery, I’m back onto the blog book tour. So once again I can delve deeper into crime, and mystery and nurture that inner Sherlock in me. This time it’s a new author to me, so I have no idea what to expect.

Not everyday I can exercise or do chores, so what better way to spend some of my hip recovery, but to read and get lost for a few hours each day.

From multiple #1 best-selling author Joy Ellis, comes a mystery that will have you glued from first page to last, with a truly shocking conclusion.

DETECTIVE MATT BALLARD’S LAST CASE MIGHT BE THE ONE THAT FINALLY BREAKS HIM.
Grace Repton, a beautiful older woman, walks into the police station to tell Matt she has information that could stop a murder. Her fiancé, the infamous serial killer Jeremy Reader, has told her that he has a disciple who is going to kill using Reader’s horrific methods.
Reader murdered five women and was finally brought to justice by Detective Ballard. Reader is safely imprisoned in a high security prison, and claiming to be a reformed man who wants to help the police.
But can Matt believe the serial killer or his peculiar wife to be? Can the love of a good woman really change a serial killer?
And the Fenland police also have another investigation on their hands. A Lithuanian migrant worker is found dead on the fens. There is no ID on him, but he has a Tree of Life tattoo. The third body to be found with this distinctive tattoo. Is this gang war or something even more sinister?

CAN YOU TRUST A KILLER TO HELP STOP A KILLER?
The police are stretched to breaking point with multiple copycat murders. And Matt and his girlfriend Liz will fight for everything they care about in a heart-stopping conclusion that will have you on the edge of your seat.

My Review

This is a page turning read with many twists and loops, and so many What? moments? There are just as many dead ends to try and catch them out too. But even dead ends can reveal clues and leads to be useful. Will these leads hark back to Matt’s Past? Will it come back to haunt him and threaten everyone he cares about.

The characters are eye opening with realistic flaws and personalities. I felt no only did I learn some medical facts on complex mental health issues, but also learning about different cultures, and they’re struggles through this life.

#Blogmas 2018 The Winter Mystery by Faith Martin #BlogBookTour

Archive, blog book tour, blogmas 2018

Here I am back on it again with another terrific murder mystery book. Earlier this month I’d done The Birthday Mystery. Now there’s another one to enjoy.

So kick off your shoes and let’s begin.

FAITH MARTIN

Faith Martin was born in Oxford, and has spent all her life within twenty miles of the university city, even working at Somerville College for five years before turning to writing full-time. The author of the popular DI Hillary Greene novels, she also writes more classic-style ‘whodunits’ under the pen name Joyce Cato, but began her writing career as Maxine Barry, winning an award for penning romance novels! A popular writer for over 25 years, she has had nearly 50 novels published so far. Her hobbies include walking her now ageing dog, wildlife-watching, reading and (reluctantly) gardening

My Review

Oh dear Jenny has got herself in a pickle at first. So much to do and all the while not treading on the nieces toes. And it’s Christmas as well. I felt for her in the snow, I could recall the snow drifts we had in March this year, ridiculous heights it got too.

She is such a warm character, and I think she would be a hoot to know in real life too. And the scents I could smell off the pages describing the food, I was in heaven!!

Picturesque village life, busy bodies and murder, what more could I ask for? A full cast of characters with wit, and intelligence to boot, it’s a good read. I was kept guessing right until the end, which thrilled me no end. I love it when I don’t know how it’s going to end.

The Enigma by Stewart Giles #blogbooktour

Here we are once again, but with a twist, this time instead of just being a DS Jason Smith, or DC Harriet Taylor series. These two powerhouses are combined. What a collab. I was soon eager to get stuck into this. So not only do we have the rugged Whitby coast, we dive into the rural beauty of Cornwall as well. Heavenly!!

The Enigma (DS Jason Smith & DC Harriet Taylor #1)

Available from UK £0.99 US $1.27 AU $1.78 CA $1.70

From #1 best-selling author: Stewart Giles comes a new detective series featuring the detectives from both the series’ we know and love.

In Trotterdown, Cornwall a boat, The Enigma washes in to the harbour. The skipper is dead, and Harriet Taylor is brought in to investigate. But 1 dead body is not the only crime the team have to deal with.

Meanwhile, further up the coast in Whitby a boat washes up on the rocks just outside the harbour. Everyone on board is dead. Whitby Police are out of their depth, so DS Jason Smith is called in to help.

It soon becomes clear the cases are connected and the teams from York and Trotterdown settle down to work with each other.

This is a unique story with twist, turns and shocks all the way through making it an adrenaline pumping read you will not be able to put down.

Stewart Giles – Author Bio

After reading English at 3 Universities and graduating from none of them, I set off travelling around the world with my wife, Ann, finally settling in South Africa, where we still live. After Ann dropped a rather large speaker on my head I came up with the idea for a detective series. DS Jason Smith was born. Smith, the first in the series was finished a few months later. 3 years and 8 DS Smith books later, Joffe Books wondered if I would be interested in working with them. As a self-published author, I agreed. However, we decided on a new series – the DC Harriet Taylor Cornwall series. The Beekeeper hit the shelves and hit the number one spot in Australia. The second in the series, The Perfect Murder did just as well. The third in the series, The Backpacker I have self-published and is now available.

My Review

I knew I was in for a treat when I heard the DC Harriet Taylor series and DS Jason Smith series were combining.

What could get better than these two excellent character meeting, cracking impossible clues to find a psychopathic murderer.

If they can learn to trust each other and not be so alpha, and become the best crime fighting duo the country has seen.

Chemistry is a must, to pull these into a cat and mouse chase to find a killer that travels the UK, leaving bodies in his wake.

What a read, a thrilling wild ride!!

My Review

Its a very different style of my usual crime, murder mysteries. And I’m so glad I took a chance on this. Some books are intense and pull you in with intrigue, wrapped in mystery. Others are lighter to read, easier to follow and have their own place in your life. And this book is the later for me. A real kick off your shoes, snuggle down with hot chocolate read. Nothing to stressful to read, so you feel relaxed, and entertained.  I hated the main character at first Jessica, she ruffled my feathers, though I could see why she behaved the way she did, and as the story progresses, you soften and grow with her throughout the story unfolding. Enough intrigue to keep me turning each page, eager to see how they develop. A perfect beachy holiday book. Loved it.

AUTHOR BIO

Hi my name is Wendy Cooper. Growing up surrounded by books was a given. Dad was a bookseller back in the day and I worked for a publishing company in England on my big overseas adventure. I couldn’t escape the lure of books if I wanted to. For thirty years I was a flight attendant with our national carrier, and still immersed myself in reading on those long tours of duty away from New Zealand. On retiring from that career I settled on the Volcanic Plateau with my partner and two exotic cats who bring us much joy with their antics.

Travel writing and photography diplomas make up the sum total of my academic background. I prefer to inform those who ask, I graduated from the University of Life and am doing post graduate studies for the rest of my life!

I’ve been mentored by two fantastic writers who have helped my writing get to where it is today. Lee Murray and Eileen Mueller thank you for believing in me.

Women’s fiction with strong romantic themes (mainly gay women, but not exclusively) seems to be where my genre lies. Once I’ve written all the stories I have on my ‘To do’ list, I might try fantasy. There’s a blind dragon who has befriended a fairy who can’t fly. They would like their story told. Amazon Author Page…
