Day 7 + 8 post #intra-articular #steroid injection in Hip.

It’s been a week, and Wow that time has flown by!!

Today it’s a MiCats appointment for my hand, and I honestly expected nothing, except maybe a referral to a rheumatologist. Which did happen, hopefully appointment in 6-9 weeks time, but also I was offered the #steroid injection into the CMC joint today. I said yes, though nervous. Nicer to get it out of the way.

The doctor was lovely, she confirmed again there is no Rheumatoid Factor but high levels of inflammation. And the DIP joints ( finger top knuckles) as well as basal thumb joint all show wear and tear indications it’s Arthritis, or my Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. Something is happening, so it’s a process of elimination now.

Injection did smart a bit, once again I had Marcaine, Lidocaine and Kenalog injection. I’m happy as so far it’s just been hair loss as a side effect.

This is in the evening, so looks ok. Super stiff and achy though. Hurts to use, so having 24hours off. Been instructed to brace it as well.

Hand swelled up too, so I’ve removed my rings just in case.

Hip wise I confess it’s been nagging, bit grumbly and not quite right. But it’s nearly that time of the month, which usually sends ALL my joints haywire and extra painful too. So it could be that. That groin pain has gone again though so that’s all good.

Day 8 it’s mad dash packing day, why do I leave it until the last minute?? Only popping to barmouth in a cottage with family, but should be a giggle. 2 nights 3 days away, hope this weather lasts!! Packing one handed is pretty difficult I might add.

Woke up with a super stiff right shoulder and neck, not entirely sure why though? Going to need hot water bottles and ibuprofen today. Hand feels pretty good, just braced to limit its range for now.

Hopefully all will be ace while we are away, and I will be pain free too. Have a lovely weekend my lovelies xx

Steroid injection day 5 + 6

Archive, Health, Hips, Hypermobility, Hip Arthroscopy, Triple Pelvic Ost, Femoral Ost, PAO

Pleased to say all is quiet on the hip front, although clearly I did too much yesterday as my operated leg quad muscle was aching all day on day 5. So that prompted a total lower body rest. Boring but I feel necessary, as I have Physio the following day anyways at the Hospital.

I chose to do free weights so I’d at least got a workout done, making me feel productive and it helps mentally as well as physically. And not forgetting to sunbathe, seriously can’t believe the luck we’ve been having with all this glorious sunshine and warmth.

My new appointment for my 6week post injection date came through, it’s for August 21st. Here I think I’ll push for more answers on scar tissue and if there’s any point in delaying a hip replacement now?!

Day 6 saw me at the hospital for physiotherapy, so I can ask advice and let her assess if there’s any movement improvement, better range or stamina. As it’s so hard to gage it yourself. Awoke with awful Glute pain, not sure why though? Seems weird it was the Quad muscle, now it’s the opposite Glute muscle?

Front leg raise

Then front leg raise to abduction

Football between knees hip bridges, then into sitting up and hip adduction.

Prone lying on front, bend knee and raise.

All these actually eased off some muscle aches. But it did hurt the groin so I’m having to rest up and increase painkillers. Bored though, so I think I best watch the football to entertain me.

Feeling Lost and Frustrated 34 weeks Hip Arthroscopy

We’ve had some amazing days out, some glorious weather and family adventures, and I’m truly grateful. I really am.

But one thing always brings me down, and that is PAIN!! It’s limiting, it’s depressing, and it’s always always there!!

If it’s not my Hand it’s my Hip, or Lower back. The pain that blurs the edges of all the good that you do, the pain that awakens you from sleep, the pain you can’t escape. But what has kept me going is knowing that my steroid injection should be soon.

But I’ve learnt that although I was penciled in for end of May, it’s now looking more like mid to end of June. Which has admittedly took the wind out of my sails. I’m so frustrated by the waiting, and wondering, it’s agony.

It’s something I can’t change, and though I feel a little lost as to what to do. My husband is right I should just forget it, keep on, keep going, and don’t get stuck or hung up on this date. It will happen when it does.

So for now, it’s continue as often as I can with physio at home to help ease pains and stability, while understanding that I’m not a failure if there’s days I can’t do things (hardest thing to realise) rest days are important too.

It’s now 7 months since my surgery and I’m ready to say it’s not worked. In fact I’m actually worse off. Not pain wise initially, but this unstable joint is far more life hindering.

A few days ago you saw I popped to the cinema, we used disabled parking so it was minimal walking, seats were amazing, yet somehow my hip still went from under me in the evening.

Cue tears, lots of pain, swelling, leg is 3inches fatter than other one!! And I’m back to one crutch. I’d only just been saying earlier, if hip stayed in the joint life is perfect. Now I’m sat here thinking if popping out my house once a week is enough to make it unstable, then I’m ready to rip it out. I want to live, do things and not merely exist.

So with this said I’m still chasing steroid injection appointment, it’s not been done yet. I now have to rest the joint. So I’m going all in on arms. This way I feel productive and not bored and useless. I use it as a tool to distract from hip pain too.

Bicep curls 15reps x 3

Shoulder press 15reps x 3

Side lateral raises 15reps x 3

Bicep row 15reps x 3

Tricep extension 15reps x 3

Chest press 15reps x 3

Tricep overhead 15reps x 3

My weights are only 3.5kg and I know it’s not much, but it makes me ache, I do it to failure. And I feel better once I’ve done them. The ache is unreal afterwards, I feel like I can’t lift my arms, so clearly it’s needed for me.

My new joggers came, so that’s a silver lining too. You can get yours here and use my affiliate code which helps me out and you get 10% off too DEBORAHWY10

29 weeks post op #hiparthroscopy physiotherapy

Weeks are flying by and though I’m stuck in a limbo situation via the hip being unstable and super painful. The decision to do the exercises set aside for post op hip replacement patients has been working.

As they are designed to strengthen everything around the new implant and not cause a dislocation. I’ve noticed a small increase in stamina and strength, so I’m going to continue, and the hip hasn’t been unstable this week at all. So that’s progress.

This following week I’m going to increase the reps from 10reps to 15reps and see how that goes. I do find I exercise, do physio one day, but I need at least one day to rest.

Scar update, you can barely see them. Obviously they pale in comparison to my 10inch ones, but just an update for those only having Arthroscopic scars.

Now I’m itching to get out more once weather improves and work on uneven footing and inclines, as hip doesn’t like those situations so much.

No news as yet for the steroid injection for basal thumb or hip, hoping to hear more in the next 2 weeks time. I’m getting pretty eager to have them, even though they scare the pants off me at the same time.

Moving on from week to week and not much has happened this week, except I’m poorly again!! Just a chesty cough and woolly headedness, so I’ll live.

But I did visit the doctor over my hand, as it’s getting too hard to hold the simplest of things lately. The basal joint of the thumb feels like electric shocks, when I try to hold cups, plates or my phone. It’s been like it on and off for a year or so?? Wonder if Arthritis or just Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. Anyways had bloods taken to check, and I’m being referred to MiCats for physiotherapy and steroid injection for it. So that’s 2 steroids in 2 different joints this year!! I need this hand for my walking stick. For now I brace it on bad days, but when it settles I take it off, so it’s not solely dependant on it.

So for physio it’s been PANTS for a week, barely done any, as I’ve had family visits, doctor’s visits, then blood test visits, and honestly they’ve just took it out of me. Just being still hurts so I’ve had no desire to move the hip. Maybe it’s increased on pain because the weather is so damp? Or because it’s that time of cycle when it all flares up (when my whole body feels broken and shattered) or simply being ill makes me feel things more?

Just waiting on blood results next and of course appointments to come through from steroid in hip, physio for hand, and steroid for hand. Can’t wait to get them all done and dusted, though I’m scared!!

These weeks are flying by, and its already time for another land physio appointment.

Last week you will recall, it was my first one, and though we didn’t do anything unusual, it hurt a LOT!! afterwards. And to fill you in, I had the appointment last Wednesday, and I spent Thurs, Friday doing nowt as I was still extremely sore. Saturday was a big day in Bristol, and I needed Tramadol and Walking Stick to cope with that day. Sunday was just as big as still in Bristol celebrating hubbies birthday, so used Tramadol and stick where needed.

And low and behold my Monday, Tues, Wednesday have been spent entirely recovering as I can. (Obviously I can’t rest too much, as daughters birthday Tuesday, plus household chores ready for Christmas) but its been harder, stiffer and more painful this week since that appointment.

Well I ended up doing the exact same routine for this physio appointment!! Even though I told her it killed me last time.

  • Stationary bike 5mins
  • Leg press 40kg 20reps
  • Hip bridges 20reps
  • All fours leg raise 20reps
  • Glute/Quad sit down raise (banded) 20reps
  • Pelvic tilt on swiss ball 20reps
  • Slide wall squats 20reps

But on the plus side, she said I was walking straighter, and with more stamina than before, so perhaps the nasty flare up was worth it after all?? Because though it hurts I am recovering well it seems. I even walked a bit unaided. I’m home now, nursing very sore hip and back. Hoping it won’t take all weekend for the pain to ease off again.

Have a lovely weekend you lovelies xx

1st Land Physio Session in Gym, 12weeks post hip arthroscopy

Archive, Blogmas 2017, Health, Hips, Hypermobility, Hip Arthroscopy, Triple Pelvic Ost, Femoral Ost, PAO

We are here at last, 3mths or 12weeks post op! And I had my first Land physiotherapy appointment. I was dreading it, as I knew I’d feel like I was going backwards, compared to how fit I felt in the pool at hydro.

But I wasn’t actually that prepared for how painful it actually was. Now the pain didn’t start until I was making my way home, so I couldn’t tell my physiotherapist. But I sure will be next week, in case its something we can avoid.

First up was stationary bike, I did no resistance cycling for 5mins.

Then it was leg press with weights. Now I have a feeling this is an exercise that caused my pain afterwards?? As it did not like this harsh positioning.

10 reps

images (9)

Hip bridges next, which weren’t too bad, as I’d already been practising these as homework physio.

10 reps

hip-bridge-1

Then onto all fours (this killed my wrists a lot) bring bent leg to chest, then straightening it. Possible groin aggravating exercise?

10 reps

timthumb

Then onto a swiss ball for pelvic tilts, this again could be my source of the pain.

10 reps

Pelvic-Tilts (1)

My easiest exercise came next, only easy as I’m quite quad dominant, so this works them out. Sat down, resistant band leg raises.

10 reps

Leg-extentions_lvv0dj

Finally exercises of the day, again one I’ve been doing at home, its slide wall squats, only difference being I was bndd at knees.

10 reps

Do-Wall-Sits-Step-21

I walked out feeling like the groin was pinching, which then got worse and worse, I couldn’t wait to get home, take some painkillers and hot water bottle. Feeling quite deflated, and frustrated to say the least.
