Galloping through the series, I’m diving into Horsemen face first, with my feet barely touching the ground. The action is coming thick and fast with no let up!!

Horsemen (DS Jason Smith #7) by Stewart Giles

Available from AMAZON

From #1 best-selling author: Stewart Giles comes a new addition to the popular Detective Jason Smith series.

One draining murder investigation after another has left DS Jason on the brink of losing his sanity and he needs a break.

Smith sets off for the peaceful Yorkshire village of Scarpdale for two weeks of country air, slow walks by the lakes and no mobile phone reception. He wakes up on his first morning to find three policemen outside his room. A young woman has been found dead next to one of the lakes. Smith was seen talking to the woman the night before.

Smith is begged by Jimmy Phoenix to find out what happened to his daughter. Against his better judgment, Smith agrees and starts to ask questions, but the locals are not giving anything away. When Sophie’s boyfriend, Lewis Van Camp is found dead an hour before her funeral, Smith is baffled. Lewis was his odds on favourite for Sophie’s murder.

Smith quickly realizes that rival horse breeders, the Van Camps and the Phoenix’s are involved somehow. Everybody he speaks to talks of something that happened in New York the previous summer; something sinister involving these horsemen but nobody seems to know exactly what went on.

Stewart Giles – Author Bio

After reading English at 3 Universities and graduating from none of them, I set off travelling around the world with my wife, Ann, finally settling in South Africa, where we still live. After Ann dropped a rather large speaker on my head I came up with the idea for a detective series. DS Jason Smith was born. Smith, the first in the series was finished a few months later. 3 years and 8 DS Smith books later, Joffe Books wondered if I would be interested in working with them. As a self-published author, I agreed. However, we decided on a new series – the DC Harriet Taylor Cornwall series. The Beekeeper hit the shelves and hit the number one spot in Australia. The second in the series, The Perfect Murder did just as well. The third in the series, The Backpacker I have self-published and is now available.

My Review

I loved this being set in the horse industry and big money makers as they’ve always fascinated me. The dark murky waters of self made men and crimes weave a web of lies, thrills and spills.

Seeing the DC smith get together with his partner more is nice, though I often wonder why there’s always a romance with main characters, there is never a series of TV or book that keeps zero romantic involvement. But that’s just me. I could live without a romantic element, whereas others relish it.

The mystery of the millionaires daughter is a page turner, just what has happened? And will Smith solve it in time to truly have a break away from it all?

54 weeks post #HipArthroscopy and I have good news

Archive, Health, Hips, Hypermobility, Hip Arthroscopy, SURGERY, Triple Pelvic Ost, Femoral Ost, PAO

Since holiday I’ve done zip, zlich, nada for a few days, because I got super sick as soon as I was home in the UK. I caught laryngitis and needed antibiotics, and lots and lots of rest.

While in this state, I’ve done a lot of resting as well as getting back into a routine, physio is a no no so far. But now it’s easing off, I’m hoping to return to it.

Instead we did do a walk, and attempt at #couch25k though we repeated week 3 run 1 as realistically that’s our actual level. Ended up being really good mentally, but physically it’s killed the hip (predictable) and following a bath to ease pains, I tried to lift my leg up to get dressed, and the hip feels like it’s coming out of joint?? It’s awful, painful and I’m grateful for my bathroom perch!!

Weather has made my hands so sore again, it was nice to have the week relief.

But my main news is….. I HAVE A DATE!! And it’s so soon. It’s exactly 8 weeks today, 29th November so a new hip for Christmas.

Thank goodness I got poorly now, rather than later. Now to plan, prepare and organise my house. It’s all too real now, it’s actually happening!! Woohoo

What’s been going on since we last spoke? Well I’ve been wrestling my own demons trying to make a decision, and honestly I’m no closer. I speak to fellow hippies, family and physiotherapist, and ultimately they all say it’s up to me, but I’m confused and overwhelmed.

But warm weather has returned and sadly pain hasn’t gone with the wet weather, so I know for sure now that the steroid injection has worn off, I had a glorious month, I’m just sad it wasn’t longer.

Not only has my hip steroid worn off but so too has my thumb one too, so I’m feeling like most joints and bones ache beyond belief. And the opposite thumb is flaring up too. Thank goodness for splints. Sadly for this I don’t see a rheumatologist until 9th October, so heck of a wait. Least hip is in 2 weeks time.

Because it’s all kicked off again, my physio appointment was gentle this time, lower reps, some exercises removed too, as she could see the pain some brought on. I fear I’m coming to the end of any possible improvement physio wise, as muscles are strong now, stronger than they’ve ever been. I see them again after seeing the Surgeon.

Pleased to say I’ve completed week 4 of #couch25k #couchto5k yes it totally took 3 weeks to do the three runs, but life, flare ups and events filled my time in between. But I’m over the moon we are still on this improvement train, ankles and knees are benefiting from it. Now up to 3mins brisk walking, slight bounce to step unaided. After 3 mins it’s either breathing or piriform is that kicks in, so it’s not fully sustainable, but it’s improving. Only bad thing is, I constantly feel like my hip joint is a sword, each step is a stab!!

Day 7 + 8 post #intra-articular #steroid injection in Hip.

Archive, Health, Hips, Hypermobility, Hip Arthroscopy, Triple Pelvic Ost, Femoral Ost, PAO

It’s been a week, and Wow that time has flown by!!

Today it’s a MiCats appointment for my hand, and I honestly expected nothing, except maybe a referral to a rheumatologist. Which did happen, hopefully appointment in 6-9 weeks time, but also I was offered the #steroid injection into the CMC joint today. I said yes, though nervous. Nicer to get it out of the way.

The doctor was lovely, she confirmed again there is no Rheumatoid Factor but high levels of inflammation. And the DIP joints ( finger top knuckles) as well as basal thumb joint all show wear and tear indications it’s Arthritis, or my Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. Something is happening, so it’s a process of elimination now.

Injection did smart a bit, once again I had Marcaine, Lidocaine and Kenalog injection. I’m happy as so far it’s just been hair loss as a side effect.

This is in the evening, so looks ok. Super stiff and achy though. Hurts to use, so having 24hours off. Been instructed to brace it as well.

Hand swelled up too, so I’ve removed my rings just in case.

Hip wise I confess it’s been nagging, bit grumbly and not quite right. But it’s nearly that time of the month, which usually sends ALL my joints haywire and extra painful too. So it could be that. That groin pain has gone again though so that’s all good.

Day 8 it’s mad dash packing day, why do I leave it until the last minute?? Only popping to barmouth in a cottage with family, but should be a giggle. 2 nights 3 days away, hope this weather lasts!! Packing one handed is pretty difficult I might add.

Woke up with a super stiff right shoulder and neck, not entirely sure why though? Going to need hot water bottles and ibuprofen today. Hand feels pretty good, just braced to limit its range for now.

Hopefully all will be ace while we are away, and I will be pain free too. Have a lovely weekend my lovelies xx

Feeling Lost and Frustrated 34 weeks Hip Arthroscopy

Archive, Health, Hips, Hypermobility, Hip Arthroscopy, SURGERY, Triple Pelvic Ost, Femoral Ost, PAO

We’ve had some amazing days out, some glorious weather and family adventures, and I’m truly grateful. I really am.

But one thing always brings me down, and that is PAIN!! It’s limiting, it’s depressing, and it’s always always there!!

If it’s not my Hand it’s my Hip, or Lower back. The pain that blurs the edges of all the good that you do, the pain that awakens you from sleep, the pain you can’t escape. But what has kept me going is knowing that my steroid injection should be soon.

But I’ve learnt that although I was penciled in for end of May, it’s now looking more like mid to end of June. Which has admittedly took the wind out of my sails. I’m so frustrated by the waiting, and wondering, it’s agony.

It’s something I can’t change, and though I feel a little lost as to what to do. My husband is right I should just forget it, keep on, keep going, and don’t get stuck or hung up on this date. It will happen when it does.

So for now, it’s continue as often as I can with physio at home to help ease pains and stability, while understanding that I’m not a failure if there’s days I can’t do things (hardest thing to realise) rest days are important too.

Nickelback concert

Archive, Blogger Reviews, Events, Family Adventures

We were given the opportunity to see #Nickelback in concert in Birmingham Genting Arena, which I couldn’t pass up!!

Which is why it’s been hard to do physio, as I’ve being doing ‘normie’ activities instead. Though I confess they take some days to recover from, and an increase of pain medication. However, regardless of that, it’s an opportunity I thought was worth it, and I was right.

Got the train, so we could have a beer or two.

Stick and decent footwear worn, so I was prepared for the evening. I will say I needed to lean at times. And I was so bodily broken afterwards, it took 2 days of not moving to recover.

Had a nice cold #Amstel beer. Delicious

Seether was up first, and properly warmed up the crowd. Though they were way better than I imagined.

My leaning post, and support. Had the biggest giggles all night. We sang our hearts out, and truly loved every second.

Though it wasn’t our music genre and we were new to concerts, it was a truly magickal evening. I think I’m a rock convert!!

Style Awards #LatestInBeauty Box

Archive, Beauty Boxes, Blogger Reviews, Events, Make Up, Beauty, Skincare

As soon as I saw it I knew I had to buy it, you got to choose 6 products from 60 items chosen. And boy oh boy there are some cracking products to choose as well.

As I was sharing the box with my youngest daughter her blog is here we both chose 3 items each. And all for £25.00 plus postage + packaging. Bargain!!

Choosing was hard I’ll be honest, and I was sad I’d missed the Charlotte Tilbury items. But not to worry too much we did bag ourselves a #Mac lipstick #cloudsinmycoffee

Obviously we both like this, but it’s predominantly my daughter’s top pick. RRP 18.00

I however chose this as my top pick and it’s #DrSebagh serum repair and after two uses I love it, but it’s RRP is £69.00 so no matter how much I love it, I can’t be spending that on it.

Next for my daughter was another joint love product, The Body Shops Matcha Tea Mask RRP £17.00

I hope she will let me try it soon!!

For me my next one was boring but necessary to try. As my leg skin is rough, Extremely dry and could do with love after its many many surgeries. So I chose #Ameliorate Transforming Body Lotion RRP £26.00

My daughter loves Tanning, so her last item was perfect for her to try #Sienna 1hr tanning mousse RRP £25.00

My last item is a new found love of mine, a cleansing balm. I’ve tried a few now, such as #BeautyKitchen and #EmmaHardie and this one is #Evelom and for this size it’s RRP at £20.00 but you usually buy it twice this size and at £42.00. another item I won’t be buying as the price bracket is too high for a daily use product.

All in all we got around £175.00 worth of products, so it was too good to miss. You can still find some good products left here. I’m totally impressed, and though they won’t be repurchase products as they are too expensive for me personally, I think others will really love them. It’s a perfect way to try out brands and products you thought were beyond your means and budget.

30 weeks post #HipArthroscopy

It’s now 7 months since my surgery and I’m ready to say it’s not worked. In fact I’m actually worse off. Not pain wise initially, but this unstable joint is far more life hindering.

A few days ago you saw I popped to the cinema, we used disabled parking so it was minimal walking, seats were amazing, yet somehow my hip still went from under me in the evening.

Cue tears, lots of pain, swelling, leg is 3inches fatter than other one!! And I’m back to one crutch. I’d only just been saying earlier, if hip stayed in the joint life is perfect. Now I’m sat here thinking if popping out my house once a week is enough to make it unstable, then I’m ready to rip it out. I want to live, do things and not merely exist.

So with this said I’m still chasing steroid injection appointment, it’s not been done yet. I now have to rest the joint. So I’m going all in on arms. This way I feel productive and not bored and useless. I use it as a tool to distract from hip pain too.

Bicep curls 15reps x 3

Shoulder press 15reps x 3

Side lateral raises 15reps x 3

Bicep row 15reps x 3

Tricep extension 15reps x 3

Chest press 15reps x 3

Tricep overhead 15reps x 3

My weights are only 3.5kg and I know it’s not much, but it makes me ache, I do it to failure. And I feel better once I’ve done them. The ache is unreal afterwards, I feel like I can’t lift my arms, so clearly it’s needed for me.

My new joggers came, so that’s a silver lining too. You can get yours here and use my affiliate code which helps me out and you get 10% off too DEBORAHWY10

First week of #marchmeetthemaker2018

Archive, Challenges, Randoms, Miscellaneous

Yes I’m back at it again, using @joannehawker guide to allow customers, followers etc to see the person behind the makes on their shops.

Now I’m never going to suddenly be a selfie queen, so this challenge actually helps me show myself, without some deranged mad woman’s selfie looking back at you.

Each day has a theme to base your Instagram photo on, some are easy, some hard, and maybe some impossible?!

Day 1 – You, here is me at the last #sbsevent2018

Day 2 – Where, my local town is half olde worlde and modern.

Day 3 – How you started, I started following this surgery, I had a #TriplePelvicOsteotomy and FemoralOsteotomy done at the same time, and was rendered immobile and housebound.

Day 4 – Favourite make, mine is the Gothic style jewellery I did, that also got featured in Shine On Jewellery magazine.

Day 5 – Photography, I honestly have nothing fancy. Occasionally I use a white box, nice surroundings, my child as a model. But always always use my phone as my camera.

Day 6 – Workspace, I don’t have an area just to work on, I’m often doing it on my lap while watching TV. I love that I can do it anywhere. My biggest workspace is really my brain, it all starts here.

Day 7 – Routine, I simply honestly have none. I can’t always make and create as my own body works against me sometimes. So I can only do it, when I can physically and mentally. And everything I do works around pain and limitations.
