Familiar aches are back… 50 weeks post #HipArthroscopy

Charting my journey as its nearly a whole year since my Hip Arthroscopy Surgery, at the time I knew I was potentially only saving myself an extra year or so from Hip replacement. However it ended up a lot sooner than I imagined, meaning I sought a steroid injection to stabilise the joint back in June, and now already I’m in the process of being on the waiting list to replace it.

It’s been a good year however, I’ve improved all the muscles, and strength which was important to me, and I firmly believe it will give me a better foundation to build on, following the replacement.

It’s now 10 weeks since the Hip steroid and that pains been back a far while, and no surprise if I’m honest. It lasted at best 4 weeks. A bloody glorious 4 weeks too.

My CMC joint steroid was 9 weeks ago and it worked immediately, and completely too. And just today at 9 weeks, I’m starting to feel the bone crushing sensation on the joint. So hard to explain it really, just feels like a constant vice on the joint. Well that’s back, I’m thinking a turn in weather temperature brought that back into my life.

This poor hand never catches a break, as recently I fell over and created a TFCC tear in the same hand. So lots of bracing, ibuprofen and rest for now. Thankfully that pain which was intense, has subsided into an ache, and overall weakness.

I confess in the time since I’ve fell which was 2 weeks ago tomorrow, I haven’t done any #couch25k #couchto5k as I was too sore and swollen from falling. Then we did Blackpool a week later, and hip has been 💯 bitch since. So sharp, so stabby, even while sitting down, or lying down, that the thought of standing on it has not appealed in the slightest.

Next week it’s 3d CT Scan time, it feels like things are actually happening, and there’s an end to this pain….

I have a date…

Well kind of, it’s a pre op date, and hip workshop date and they are far sooner than I ever imagined. It’s for the 15th November this year!!

I believe before this though, I need the 3d CT scan and that sending off to Switzerland to be made from a 3d printed model. So it’s all go go go.

Weirdly I assumed I’d have at least 5mths to 1yr for this process, so maybe that registrar really meant 4mths for the whole process?

I got this date 4 days after my appointment at the ROH which blew me away. Usually I don’t hear from them for 3mths before any dates.

So it’s pre op, so ECG and height and weight checks, probably bloods too. Hoping by then I can confirm I have RA or tell them it’s just OA (RA rheumatoid arthritis, OA osteoarthritis) as this will affect medication allowed and treatment plans.

The hip workshop I’m not entirely convinced I need, this isn’t my first hip rodeo. My couch allows a seat at 90degrees (why we bought it) my bed is high too. I already have perches, bath boards, crutches and grabber. But I will go as required and see what they say.

I’m 49 weeks post hip arthroscopy and embarking on a new journey. It’s been 9 and 8 weeks since steroid injections in hip and CMC joint. And since then I’ve fallen over onto my outstretched hand (left one) I use with a walking stick. This seriously hurts, landed heavily on my left knee, which hurt more at the time, but now it’s 3 days old it’s only tender to touch. Unlike wrist, which feels worse now.

So I’m feeling a tad stupid for falling and hurting myself, I can only hope I fix soon and can use my walking stick on Friday for Blackpool’s big switch on!!

It’s now 7 months since my surgery and I’m ready to say it’s not worked. In fact I’m actually worse off. Not pain wise initially, but this unstable joint is far more life hindering.

A few days ago you saw I popped to the cinema, we used disabled parking so it was minimal walking, seats were amazing, yet somehow my hip still went from under me in the evening.

Cue tears, lots of pain, swelling, leg is 3inches fatter than other one!! And I’m back to one crutch. I’d only just been saying earlier, if hip stayed in the joint life is perfect. Now I’m sat here thinking if popping out my house once a week is enough to make it unstable, then I’m ready to rip it out. I want to live, do things and not merely exist.

So with this said I’m still chasing steroid injection appointment, it’s not been done yet. I now have to rest the joint. So I’m going all in on arms. This way I feel productive and not bored and useless. I use it as a tool to distract from hip pain too.

Bicep curls 15reps x 3

Shoulder press 15reps x 3

Side lateral raises 15reps x 3

Bicep row 15reps x 3

Tricep extension 15reps x 3

Chest press 15reps x 3

Tricep overhead 15reps x 3

My weights are only 3.5kg and I know it’s not much, but it makes me ache, I do it to failure. And I feel better once I’ve done them. The ache is unreal afterwards, I feel like I can’t lift my arms, so clearly it’s needed for me.

My new joggers came, so that’s a silver lining too. You can get yours here and use my affiliate code which helps me out and you get 10% off too DEBORAHWY10

Moving on from week to week and not much has happened this week, except I’m poorly again!! Just a chesty cough and woolly headedness, so I’ll live.

But I did visit the doctor over my hand, as it’s getting too hard to hold the simplest of things lately. The basal joint of the thumb feels like electric shocks, when I try to hold cups, plates or my phone. It’s been like it on and off for a year or so?? Wonder if Arthritis or just Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. Anyways had bloods taken to check, and I’m being referred to MiCats for physiotherapy and steroid injection for it. So that’s 2 steroids in 2 different joints this year!! I need this hand for my walking stick. For now I brace it on bad days, but when it settles I take it off, so it’s not solely dependant on it.

So for physio it’s been PANTS for a week, barely done any, as I’ve had family visits, doctor’s visits, then blood test visits, and honestly they’ve just took it out of me. Just being still hurts so I’ve had no desire to move the hip. Maybe it’s increased on pain because the weather is so damp? Or because it’s that time of cycle when it all flares up (when my whole body feels broken and shattered) or simply being ill makes me feel things more?

Just waiting on blood results next and of course appointments to come through from steroid in hip, physio for hand, and steroid for hand. Can’t wait to get them all done and dusted, though I’m scared!!

Glossy box UK #Galentines February box

Beauty Boxes, Blogger Reviews, Events

This month’s box is Neon pink and funky, in fact I think it’s my new favourite box (more designs like this please!)

In the run up to receiving mine, I’d obviously checked on others to see what they got, as I’m nosey!! And I saw lots got the #IconaMilano Mascara which is admittedly good, but I craved the #SkinChemists Aqua Repair Serum. So I wished and prayed for it. And Woohoo I got it!! This has 3 FULL SIZE products and 2 minis

24Hour Aqua Repair Facial Serum this is suitable for all skin types, delivering vitamins and antioxidants to the skin to reduce redness and hydrate deeply. It was a FULL SIZE product 30ml RRP £64 skinchemists.com clearly way out of my price range, but I’m glad to have this opportunity to try it out, see how the other half lives eh?!

Other variables were #Oolution Eye Cream which I’ve had before, nice but I didn’t actually see results. RRP £30.99 Or there was another Mascara by #Rodial Glamolash XXL RRP £24 which again I’ve had before, I love it, but I’m very very happy with #SkinChemists

Another #Sleek palette in #VintageRomance and though I’m not a fan of Sleek before, I’m still eager to try it out, and the colours are beautiful. FULL SIZE product RRP £8.99 sleekmakeup.com/uk brilliant price for this beauty

#SteveLaurant Nude Lip Gloss a beautiful cruelty free lip tint that’s creamy and hydrating. FULL SIZE RRP £17 stevelaurant.com *Packaging lovely, it’s truly pretty, but the Nude colour on me looks like Foundation lips* and sadly this is too pricey for me as a gloss.

#Studio10Beauty is a new brand on me, it’s a Make up Mist Glow-Plexion a gentle mist that hydrates lacklustre skin (that’s me) primes and also a setting spray. I use Makeup revolution one at £5 for quite a lot of product. This however is a MINI SIZE RRP £14 and full size would be £26. I’m not convinced it’s worth that much? Will it lure me away from Makeup Revolution?? studio10beauty.com

Last but not least it’s a MINI SIZE #Ciate gelology paint pot. Meant to give 10 days of high gloss shine with minimal chipping (we will see) it’s cruelty free so thats a plus. Pale minty green is perfect pastel shades for spring and will look amazing with pastel lavender combo. RRP MINI SIZE £6 full size is £9 ciatelondon.com

So there you have it, a great array of things to try out, feel pampered and beautiful this Valentine’s Day.

Feeling old

Archive, Challenges, Randoms, Miscellaneous, Make Up, Beauty, Skincare

Now I’m over 40, I’ll be honest, I’ve REALLY really been feeling my age. And even my mortality too. Perhaps I need to grow up, start acting like life isn’t forever. After seeing friends pass, celebrities too that aren’t far off my own age, has started to freak me out. Obviously hip issues don’t help either, as pain and immobility aren’t actually a youthful combination.

So I’ve started to tweak some things in my life, to help ease the transition into middle age. I’d like to fight it off as long as possible. Immobility I’m addressing with physio, and basic workouts on Xbox kinnect, and free weights too.

I’ve started to eat fruits, salads, and more veggie dishes. Starting to cook a lot more from scratch again. So even if they are pizzas, it’s lower cals, fresh ingredients, and salt.

These little things make me feel a bit more productive and less old. Whether it’s placebo or actual results, if it helps then it helps.

I’ve also started to actually pay attention to my skin too, usually I’m slap dash, bog standard moisturizer and cleansing wipes are my go too. But now I’m buying and using an array of products, to rid myself of that grey lacklustre dry skin once and for all. I will blog about these at a later date, so I feel I have actual results to say about. Currently using #StIves blemish control exfoliating face cream, the deciem Lactic Acid, and deciem Rosehip facial oil.

With oils though, I’m comparing #BeautyKitchen #Deciem #DrBotanicals and newcomer #SofiaLatif

So any advice for this gal to fight aging, to feel that hedonistic vibe instead of impending doom??
