Stewart Giles – Author bio

After reading English at 3 Universities and graduating from none of them, I set off travelling around the world with my wife, Ann, finally settling in South Africa, where we still live. After Ann dropped a rather large speaker on my head I came up with the idea for a detective series. DS Jason Smith was born. Smith, the first in the series was finished a few months later. 3 years and 8 DS Smith books later, Joffe Books wondered if I would be interested in working with them. As a self-published author, I agreed. However, we decided on a new series – the DC Harriet Taylor Cornwall series. The Beekeeper hit the shelves and hit the number one spot in Australia. The second in the series, The Perfect Murder did just as well. The third in the series, The Backpacker I have self-published and is now available.

My review

Stewart just does it again and again, while I’ve not been as active as I’ve wanted to be, Stewart Giles books have entertained me.

From daring nail biting action, to mind melding puzzles that all us amateur sleuths try to deduce. The story encompasses it all, along with flawed humans you can easily see traits of in yourself.

The whole character base now feel like family members, you have a warmth for them, you feel their heightened emotions through each chapter.

3 week countdown to #THR it’s official

Archive, Health, Hips, Hypermobility, SURGERY, Triple Pelvic Ost, Femoral Ost, PAO

Since week 4 some things have happened, none bad. Not really.

My appointment for the #TotalHipReplacement is officially through, it’s still 29th November and it’s at 10.30am so no mad dash at 6am, phew that’s better for me. I’ve had to ring to accept the date, so it’s set stone now and I can plan around it. Yay happy days. I must start measuring my furniture now.

And I’ve seen a Physiotherapist about my hands or so I thought!! But alas they don’t do hands which is a shame as they have been awful this week. The right hand thumb has flared up, hurts to lift the kettle, hold pens, it’s swelled up too. Hard to see on photos, but it’s super painful. No rhyme or reason but each day they are flaring up, and feel like lightening at times. But I’ve also rung MiCats as I’m desperate to find a solution for the pain and flares. But i find out they have signed me off, so back to GP for another referral, I see them 16th November.

Instead they were treating my hypermobility, with appropriate exercise to stabilize the joints. My shoulders being the worst that is what we are focusing on. I’ve been referred to OTs for hand assistance, possible mobility aids to have around the house. And to join a hypermobility group at physio for more assistance after my a hip replacement.

My usual shoulder stability exercises are above, but as I have certain times of the month when joints are rattling in and out of joint. She recommended these smaller exercises, to do daily to build up stability and strength.

So using a ball, press firmly, making small circles 10 reps clockwise, 10 reps anticlockwise, and then 10 reps up and down. Small actions, but I felt it immediately. So targeted. This should help for when I’m put back onto crutches after #HipReplacement I’ve been doing them 3 x a day and wow, what a exercise. Super effective and I’m keen to see how this will improve my future health.

Weather has really kicked the hip pain up a few notches, and I’m just so glad I don’t have long to wait now. The groin is like a white hot poker of pain just sitting, let alone attempting to walk or do physio.

Took all my body measurements so I can compare after surgery, it’s something I have always done. It’s a better gage than the scale for me. So I know what I’m working back to following rehabilitation. I’m feeling much more ready to get it all done.

ANGELFIRE by Deryn Pittar and Meg Buchanan

Buy from AMAZON

When Major Lewis Carpenter arrives home in Haven Falls he’s literally knocked off his feet by his neighbour, Emma. She’s even more gorgeous than he remembers.

That evening, he arrives at her door with a bottle of wine, only to find her armed and ready to repel invaders. After much persuasion, she tells him she’s an angel and the devil has chosen her to be his bride – but she’s not going without a fight.

Lewis, who suffers from PTSD, finds her story about as believable as some of his flashbacks, but is prepared to go along with her until proven otherwise because he’s fantasized about her for years.

What follows is an exciting couple of days involving fights with fallen angels, a kidnapping and a rescue involving a fire truck. All’s fair in love and war, especially if you’re falling in love with an angel.

I write futuristic and fantasy fiction, spiced with romance and adventure. This allows my imagination to run free, to create interesting characters caught in unusual circumstances and events. Sometimes I have the pleasure of watching science and technology catch up with my imagination.

I also write Young Adult, short stories and flash fiction; articles on writing and I am published in these genre. I self-published a children’s rhyming book and once won a prize for a short screen script.

I’m a published poet and I endeavour to put my poetry skills into my fiction writing to enhance the word pictures I create.

I live in the Bay of Plenty, New Zealand which lives up to its name. I belong to the Romance Writers of N.Z., Tauranga Writers, and Spec.Fic.NZ (speculative fictionNZ).

Meg Buchanan

I live in Paeroa, a small town in New Zealand, with my husband and a black labrador. Most of my books are set in my home town, simply because it has a rich history, and the streets already have names, so do the rivers and the mountain nearby, and the neighbouring towns also have names, so I save time on world building.

I have been writing for seven years. Before that I was a teacher, then a kitchen designer, and for a year, the creator of resources for drug education. But now writing is what I do.

I love creating books about ordinary people doing interesting things. The characters in my story are just a little better looking and more charismatic than in real life, but they think and feel like normal people.

My books cover many genre, action adventure, scifi, historical fiction, and romance. Up until now you won’t find a vampire or werewolf in any them, but in the future, that can’t be completely ruled out.

My review

Totally not my genre that I would choose, I’m more crime, medical examiner style of book. But I do enjoy a lot of supernatural TV series, such as vampire diaries, the originals, supernatural, Sabrina, and so forth. So it’s not too out there for me to try out this book. And I certainly wasn’t disappointed.

Short story but it packs a punch, I was soon sucked into the characters and their lives, eager to know how they could get out of this sticky situation.

Not into love stories usually but I felt it wasn’t overly romantic, which would turn me off from reading. More like suspense, and paranormal with a touch of romance thrown in. So don’t let the genre of romance put you off.

I’d definitely read more by these authors, especially if they did some books with witches, and more spiritual characters too.

4 weeks to go #TotalHipReplacement #THR

What a week, it’s flown by. It’s a week since #WGW #WhitbyGothWeekend and it took a few days to recover, and catch up on sleep. So my week didn’t really start until Monday back into a routine.

But I will admit I’ve done no physio this week at all. From feeling the strain of the weekend, to then visiting my mother in law Wednesday, and seeing a friend Thursday, and suddenly feeling very poorly (yet again) I have had no time or energy to do it.

So there’s nothing else for it, except to show you some hip replacement related gift ideas lol *NONE OF THESE ARE AFFILIATED* I just love daft hip related gifts

Of course these are daft and are to cheer you up, but I did come across some useful items, that I think most patients would love to receive.

Hot or Cold hip wraps, probably safer than my hot water bottle, and you can strap on, so its portable too.

Pillows are our friends, but instead of standard ones between the knee that flatten. Perhaps this is sturdier.

So while I’m coughing and being sick, I’m trawling Amazon for preparation, I’m trying to organise some box sets to watch on Netflix too. I’ve already started my Christmas shopping as it’s too hard to do afterwards. So I’m attempting to be organised.

Shirt nightie bought from Primark, for hospital. I can easily get this on with drains and tube coming out everywhere, and it’s soft touch, so comforting on the skin.

Just had too, from Boohoo Halloween section, it’s a t-shirt dress, nightie. And I loved it. So it’s my back up nightie for hospital.

It’s starting to feel very real now, and besides being poorly I’m ready for it. Just really hope these bugs, viruses can just leave me alone near the time. I can’t bare it being cancelled.

Did any of you increase your protein intake? I’m considering it, for bone healing. Shall I use food or protein shakes? Decisions decisions decisions
